Essential Documentation Of Home Schooling

Nowadays, the concept of home schooling is gaining popularity in the US and Canada. The best part is that they have been officially permitted to exist with co- operation from the state government as well. Still, there are certain requirements to be considered and one of these includes keeping track of your child's development. These documents are needed as an evidence in the future when your child is ready for a college education. These could help getting financial aid for the higher studies in the form of an approved scholarship. When we talk about the various documents, generally there are six types of home schooling records to be kept in mind.

The first of these would be a sketch of the lesson plan you use on a daily basis for your child. It would be some what similar to a time table in the schools which would propose what all you plan to teach your child everyday. The local schools might want to take a look at these records to check if the home schooling teaching process is heading towards in the right direction. This will help you to progress and determine your understanding as well. You would need to be abreast with the recent developments and keep a track of what you are teaching. This is to ensure that your child receives a proper education.

There are a number of subjects to be taught, hence, it is recommended to design a layout which will include all of them. Some subjects might need additional time and extra efforts. The only way to detect this would be when you have sorted out the duration being spent on each one of them as even you might need further attempts for some of these. Now, do an analysis of how the child improves in every subject and whether the time being spent is sufficient enough. You would need to develop the habit of documenting your child's academic journal. This would be just as the records are being made in schools for your child's progress periodically to see where they stand. The advantage here is that you would know what to work on so the objectives can be accomplished successfully.

Another aspect would be to evaluate their learning and understanding. This is a common practice in schools to test the students on a periodic basis and even you should do testing of some sort. Rank your child and document it as the scores might be needed for further reference. Examinations and tests are not enough for a complete learning process. In addition, they should be encouraged to be a part of various co-curricular activities like working on projects and reports. These can be documented as a collection of the places visited along with the details, photographs and any additional information. Such a portfolio becomes essential to be presented before the school authorities so that you can get further approval for continued home schooling.

The government conducts a uniform test for home schooled children with the help of local schools. It will test your child's knowledge on a range of subjects including reading, math, science and other areas. This is a way to find out how capable your child is and whether or not the purpose of home schooling is being met. Once you make a list of all the above, you would see for yourself how it gives a crystal clear picture of the entire home schooling process. You will easily figure out how well the concept gels and also determine the areas of improvement. The most important aspect of documentation is that these will serve as a proof of an education for getting admission into college. Further, your child will have the best possible education.
